Summary

Summary

When I was looking for an article to get information from, I tried to look for something that showed how Athletic Training has changed over the years. This article was very useful because it not only talks about change, but it gives a good explanation of what Athletic Training really is. Athletic Training is often confused with a number of things, personal trainer, physical therapist, etc. This article provides good clarification as to what it actually is.

When I first started my research I had very few ideas as to what I wanted my overall topic to be. This article helped me get an idea and it has pointed me in the right direction. This article is the foundation of my project and I will continue to build off of it. I need to find a few more articles that support the information I found and after that I should have enough information for the project. I’ll also use all of this information on my senior capstone.

The article talks about how the use of athletic trainers in sports at the high school level is rapidly increasing. It talks about how trainers are gaining acknowledgement in recent years after being considered “water boys” in the past. The reason for the sudden increase in athletic trainers is due to the increased awareness of serious injuries in athletics such as concussion, heat stroke, etc. The article also gives a small job summary so that readers are informed of their actual jobs.

Assignment 10

Now that I'm a senior, I have to start thinking about what I want to do for college. I visited
https://bigfuture.collegeboard.org/college-search to give myself and idea of where to go.
1. Baylor University, Waco TX, www.baylor.edu
Georgia Southern University, Statesboro GA, www.georgiasouthern.edu
Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge LA, www.lsu.edu
2. I want an accredited program.
3. All three of the colleges above meet that criteria.
4. There are no extra requirements to get into any of these schools, but I know GSU requires you to apply to get into the program.
5. I would prefer a larger school in GA, but I am very flexible.
6. Georgia Southern is ranked 262/1,164 based on academics.
7. Scholar's Day at Georgia Southern; Marcus E. & Sharon B. Gunter Foundation, Inc. Scholarship, Carolyn Gravitt Memorial Scholarship

Time Management

Time management is a very important life skill. There's not enough time to do everything, so you have to prioritize your responsibilities. You might want to go hang out with your friends, but if you also have work and homework, you have to discipline yourself and do what you're supposed to do. As an athletic trainer you have to mange your time so you can get to work and do your job.

Week of Spetember 21

I recently read an article by Tim Elmore that detailed how to be a better intern. The article can be found here: http://growingleaders.com/blog/ . The author talked about how college students today have lost touch with what an internship really is. This really related to me because I can definitely see how its true. In the article he lists four qualities an intern should have, teachability, initiative, responsibility, and energy. This is really good information and I can be directly applied to my mentorship. Now when I go to my mentorship, I can focus on little things, like my attitude and effort, and truly get the most out of my mentorship.
